!±8± The Basic Ingredients of a Smoothies Recipe

More and more people these days are joining the smoothie bandwagon, so to speak. This stems from the realization that one needs to be on the prime of health to keep up with the fast-paced and stressful lifestyles that most people live in. Smoothies are perfect for those who want nutrition in their meals but do not have the time to prepare them.

A person who is not used to tinkering in the kitchen need not make a drastic change when preparing smoothies. This is because in making a glass, no complicated procedure is needed. The only requirement is a good quality blender and the ingredients that make up a smoothies recipe.

Smoothies can be of varied fruit-vegetable combinations or fruit with other flavor additions. A person can choose what to use according to his preferences and tastes, and what health benefits he hopes to achieve - whether preventing a disease, weight loss, healing an illness or just health maintenance. Even with the variations, it is good to always keep in hand some basic ingredients for a smoothies recipe, so a glass can always be prepared whenever needed or desired.

A bowl of fruit is a staple in most households and when in mood for a smoothie, a fruit can readily be chosen from those that are available on the table. The most popular ones include bananas, pineapples, mangoes, peaches, strawberries and blueberries. Smoothies do not require fresh fruit all the time and frozen fruit can be used. It must be noted though that frozen fruit results in a thicker, creamier drink.

Most people love yogurt as an ingredient in their smoothies recipe. This dairy product provides texture to the drink. The different flavors of yogurt that is available in the market today means that smoothie drinkers can now be more creative in their mixtures; and make them more delicious as well. Milk is also a popular choice and is preferable to water because it makes smoothie drinks more creamy and flavorful. The only drawback of milk is that it can cause digestive problems for those who are lactose-intolerant. In this case, alternative forms of milk can be utilized like soy milk, rice milk and goat's milk.

Juices, whether fresh, canned or concentrate, can be mixed with smoothies, with apple and grape as common choices. Juice can be utilized to sweeten the beverage, especially when tart fruits and yogurt, which has a tart taste, are incorporated into the beverage. Another sweetener is honey, known for its anti-viral property and is also considered a health food.

Another ingredient to a smoothies recipe which is not as common as the others is tofu. Tofu is a great source for protein, is non-fat and is tasteless. Adding tofu to a smoothie increases its nutritional value without altering the taste.

With all these ingredients in hand, making nutritious and delicious drinks is a breeze. Thus, it is very easy for anyone to make smoothies an everyday habit.
